Annual festival says "Long Live the Daisy"

By MICHAEL BOYLAN
Weekend Editor

The fall season approaches but the Garden Club of Georgia and Stone Mountain's Yellow Daisy Flower Show will usher in the sensations of spring this weekend. The Yellow Daisy Festival, an annual event, brings together garden clubs and amateur horticulturists from the 19 counties in the district. This year's show is entitled “Vive La Daisy.”

The yellow daisy was named for a French amateur botanist and librarian. The show will salute the Gallic influence in its heritage. This year also will mark the first time that the Tyrone Garden Club is making an entry in the flower show. The setting will be called “Tete-a-Tete,” meaning rendevous, and will be a functional vignette created as a secluded spot on the terrace. Many other designees will depict the French theme.

Any amateur gardener may enter horticulture and is encouraged to call 404-872-5730 for entry information. The show will be in the Stone Mountain Inn at Stone Mountain Park from 3-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Parking permits are required for each vehicle entering the park.

The Tyrone Garden Club always accepts new members to the club. They meet second Tuesdays at 7 p.m. If you are interested, contact Teresa R. Lee at 770-486-8962 or e-mail wml486@mindspring.com.
