Chamber backs school
tax The Fayette County Chamber
of Commerce Board of Directors has become the
latest business orgnization to cast its support
behind the Board of Education's sales tax
referendum.
The
school board is seeking a five-year one penny
sales tax that is expected to raise $90 million
for school construction. Voters will go to the
polls Sept. 21 to decide the issue.
The
chamber feels strongly that the one penny
addition to our sales tax is a small, and a fair,
tax to pay for capital and intellectual
improvements, said Tate Godfrey, chairman
elect of the chamber board.
This
is a quality of life issues. We must protect our
children's future and the excellent quality of
education we have come to expect in Fayette
County, added Godfrey.
