Give up gas golf carts, wood stoves

I just read in [The Peachtree Citizen Review, Aug. 20] that one of the major pharmacies in Peachtree City is going to move into a new location so it can provide drive-through service. With its drive-through service it will also provide more air pollution.

There has been a lot of comments made recently about the bad air in the Atlanta area, and drive-throughs are a major contributor. Just take a look at a small town like PTC, nestled in the woods, and see how many cars are sitting with their engines running.

Will doing away with drive-throughs eliminate air pollution? No, but it would help. Would doing away with gas golf carts on the very enclosed cart paths eliminate air pollution? No, but it would help.

There was supposed to be a moratorium on gas carts in PTC a few year ago; however, there are more gas carts now then ever. I even saw one being used for golf on the course in PTC.

Now for the one that's going to get me a lot of hate mail: Wood-burning fireplaces.

Everybody loves them. They are like kittens and puppies, but they do pollute. If you ever run on the cart paths in the winter for health reasons, you may have come home with a headache from the polluted air that is caused from the large volume of burning wood in a confined area.

The way I see it is, we have two choices. We give up some of our creature comforts, or we regress backwards into more polluted air. Clean air is made with a lot of little steps.
