Buddy Trammell

William W. “Buddy” Trammell, 62, Fayetteville, died May 9, 1999. He was born July 22, 1936 in Fayette County, the son of Lorelle McElwaney Trammell and the late Cortell Trammell. He was a 1954 graduate of Fayette County High School. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Michelle Trammell and a brother, Norman, who died in 1980.

He had worked for Eastern Air Lines, and then worked in the real estate business for 25 years. He had served as Worshipful Master of the Fayetteville Masonic Lodge #711, F&AM in 1972 and was also a member of the Yaarab Temple. He was a devoted Georgia Bulldog fan.

Services were held at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, where he had been a lifelong member. Pastor Chuck Carswell and Dr. Sam Matthews officiated. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Trammell, Fayetteville; a daughter, Stacey Trammell, Fayetteville; the Bob and Paula Williams family, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and goddaughters, Chere Mortenson, Fayetteville and Cindy Peevy, Griffin.

Memorial donations may be made to Egleston Children's Hospital, in memory of Ann Michelle Trammell, 1680 Tullie Circle, Atlanta, Ga., 30329.

Robert K. Price

Robert K. “Bob” Price, 86, Peachtree City, died May 27, 1999. He was born Jan. 18, 1913 in Fulton County, Ga.

He served in World War II as a ship captain in the Navy and was very active in Gideons International, serving as a State President and an International Trustee.

He moved to Fayette County in 1950 and a year later, organized the Fayette County Kiwanis Club, was later active in the Peachtree City Kiwanis Club; was active in the Flint River Council of Boy Scouts and began the Fayette Presbyterian Church in 1957, with four families meeting in a mobile trailer.

In 1976 he obtained a Federal grant during the Bicentennial Celebration to build the McIntosh Amphitheater (now the Frederick Brown, Jr. Amphitheater) and produced the play, “The McIntosh Trail”.

He was active in the Fayette County Cultural Arts Council, the Community Chorus and the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce.

Beginning his professional career as a commercial artist, a printing salesman and a builder, in the late 1940's he organized and operated the Robert K. Price Company, Inc., a designer and manufacturer of trade show exhibits, located first in Fayetteville and the Peachtree City.

In 1964 he formed Southern Travel Information Services, which distributed travel brochures throughout Georgia, and retired in 1973, devoting his life to civic work.

A memorial service was held at the Fayette Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Black, the Rev. Don Smith and the Rev. John Westlund officiating.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Josephine, Peachtree City; sons, Robert K. (Roby), Jr. Atlanta and Gordon J. Price, Peachtree City; and grandchildren, Kelly Manning, Richard Price and Karen Price.

Pope Dickson, Sr.

Pope Dickson, Sr., 80, died May 9, 1999. He was born Oct. 31, 1918 in Fayette County, the son of the late Lester Claude Dickson, Sr. and Nelle Camp Dickson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Dunahoo Dickson. They had married in 1942. He was also preceded in death by his older brothers, Lester Claude Dickson, Jr. and Marshall William Dickson.

A 1937 graduate of Fayette County High School, he served as an apprentice to the Redwine Brothers Funeral Home, Fayetteville, during his high school years. He then served in World War II.

In 1946 he and his wife opened the Dickson Funeral Home in Jonesboro, and in 1969 they opened the Pope Dickson Funeral Home in Morrow with their son Abb.

He was a founding member of the Morrow Masonic Lodge #734 F&AM, and had served as Coroner of Clayton County for 32 years.

Services were held at the Pope Dickson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bob Ozment, the Rev. Floyd Carmack and the Rev. Wally Woodcock officiating. Interment was at Forest Hills Memorial Garden, Forest Park, with full Masonic rites.

Survivors include his son, Abb Dickson, Morrow; and nephews, Bill and Joy Dickson, Orlando, Fla., Bob and Betsy Dickson, Ozark, Ala., and David Dickson, Locust Grove, Ga.

Elmer Cheely

Elmer B. Cheely, 72, Fayetteville, died May 22, 1999. He was born April 1, 1927 in Hancock County, Ga.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and had been involved in the automobile business for 45 years.

Services were held at the Southwest Christian Church, East Point, where he had been a member, with Dr. James W. Dyer and Dr. Olin D. Mullinax officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Eloise Cheely, Fayetteville; a son, Tommy and Vicky Cheely, Woodstock, Ga.; a daughter, Tammy and Bryan Howle, Fayetteville; a granddaughter, Beth Cheely, Woodstock; and sisters-in-law, Mildred Cheely, Fayetteville and Margaret Cheely, Augusta, Ga.; and a cousin, Lenora Blount, Fayetteville.

Memorial donations may be made to Dogwood Rehabilitation Center, 7560 Butner Road, Fairburn, 30213 or the Southwest Christian Hospice, 7225 Lester Road, Union City, 30291.

Scott Clower

Scott Clower, 42, Fayetteville, died May 24, 1999. He was born Oct. 6, 1956 in Fulton County, Ga.

Services were held at the New Hope Baptist Church, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Hugh Kirby officiating. Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery, Atlanta.

Survivors include his wife, Carlin Clower, Fayetteville; sons, Josh Clower and Jordan Clower, Fayetteville; his mother, Ruth Clower, Peachtree City; and brothers, Dr. Thomas Barry and Leslie Clower, Peachtree City and Paul and Francie Clower III, Lacrosse, Wis.

Memorial donations may be made to the Carlin Clower Fund, U.S. Federal Credit Union, 1680 Phoenix Blvd., Ste. 110, College Park, Ga. 30349.

Walter Johnson

Walter Henry Johnson, 81, Peachtree City, died May 25, 1999. He was born Sept. 11, 1917 in Oklahoma.

Private family services were held.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia C. Johnson, Peachtree City; sons, Walter Henry Johnson, Jr., Clearwater, Fla. and Walter Taylor Johnson, Bethesda, Md.; a daughter, Judy Balm, Clearwater, Fla.; stepsons, Stephen Carl McCain, Roswell and Wiley Thomas McCain, Marietta; and a sister, Olive Johnson McLendon, Lexington, Ky.

There are three grandchildren.

James Head

James Byron Head, 83, Fayetteville, died May 24, 1999. He was born Feb. 10, 1916 in Fulton County, Ga.

Services were held at the Carl J. Mowell Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Chuck Chambers officiating. Interment was at Old Bethel Cemetery, Stockbridge, Ga.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Freeland Head, Fayetteville; sons, Kenneth Head, Brooks and Gary Head, Jonesboro; and a sister, Marcelia Shackleford, Union City.

There are three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Clark McElroy III

Clark Howell McElroy III, 27, Fayetteville, died May 25, 1999. He was born Dec. 25, 1971 in Fulton County, Ga. He was a 1990 graduate of Fayette County High School.

Services were held at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church with Dr. Sam Matthews officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Survivors include his parents, Howell and Patricia Ann Carter McElroy; a brother, John and Judy McElroy, Sharpsburg; grandmother, Virginia Weldon McElroy, Fayetteville; and grandparents, Davis I. and Blanche Carter, Fayetteville.

Elizabeth Hatcher

Elizabeth Hayes Hatcher, 85, Fayetteville, died May 17, 1999. She was born Oct. 8, 1913 in Mercer County, W.Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Garland Hatcher.

Services were held at the Carl J. Mowell Chapel, Fayetteville, with Pastor John Weber officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Survivors include a son, Edward L. and Phyllis Hatcher, Fayetteville; grandsons, Brian and Un Ok Hatcher, San Jose, Calif. and Bradley and Becky Kent, Vero Beach, Fla.; a granddaughter, Shannon Hatcher, Fayetteville; great-grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth Hatcher, San Jose, Calif. and Brittany Hatcher, Fayetteville; and a sister, Mary and Al Novak, Hendersonville, N.C.
