3-dog limit seems dictatorial; will limit on kids be next?

Letters from Our Readers

How dare the Fayette County Commission even consider enforcing the three-dog limit law!

The last time I checked, we were living in a democracy, not a dictatorship.

Dogs, and pets in general, give their love and loyalty — unconditionally — and bring out the best in us as human beings.

I have lived in Peachtree City for 13 years, but would leave in a minute if this law was enforced.

Go ahead and encourage neutering and spaying pets to discourage the overpopulation of unwanted animals, but don't tell me how many pets I can have in my home! Next, the commission will be telling me how many children I can have! By the way, I have three — two Labs and a sheltie.

P.S. Tell Ms. Henning that her so-called solution to charge Fayette County residents a $100-$150 fee per pet after three to fatten the county's pocketbook is ridiculous and out of line. That same money could be spent spaying/neutering the pet, pay for veterinary bills, or be donated to the numerous and deserving nonprofit animal organizations.

For her to assume that just because animal lovers take their pet to a vet when they're sick and therefore can easily afford the extra $100 for the county has been clearly suggested out of ignorance.

Did Ms. Henning ever consider the consequences of such a recommendation? I believe this action would force animal lovers to hesitate adopting a loving pet from a shelter or even rescue one that has been abandoned.

Ms. Henning, let me know the next time you have another brilliant idea. I'll keep my pooper-scooper handy!
