The Coweta County Board of Commissioners exercised an option Tuesday to purchase 900 acres in the Shenandoah industrial park for $15 million.

The tract is the remaining undeveloped property in the industrial park and the county is hoping to lure more industrial companies to the area.

In a prepared statement read at Tuesday's commission meeting, commission Chairman Lawrence Nelms said the option to purchase the park is contingent on the county receiving an appraisal that supports the purchase price.

The property will be owned by the Coweta County Industrial Development Authority and financed by government bonds.

If the county purchases the property, the county will hire staff to market the property. The staff will seek assistance from the development authority, 21st Century Coweta and the Coweta County Board of Education in making sure quality companies are drawn to the facility.

Nelms said the step is necessary to help assure the county remains the best place to live and work in America.
