Fiddler on the Roof coming
to Starr's Mill Auditorium

The Starr's Mill High School Fine Arts Department will present the classic Broadway musical, Fiddler on the Roof, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 6, 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m in the school's Duke Auditorium.

The cast of 50 students has been rehearsing for three months to retell the story of Tevye, a poor dairyman who works hard to preserve the traditions of his quaint town, Anatevka.

Starr's Mill is updating the story from the original 1905 Russia on the eve of the Russian revolution to 1945 Poland during the Jewish Holocaust. The changes seem to add more poignancy to the story as this Jewish family is forced against their will to accept the new regime of Hitler and the Third Reich.

Comic relief is provided by the somewhat confused Tevye, the feisty matchmaker Yente, and Tevye's stubborn wife Golde. The musical features such memorable songs as "Matchmaker," "If I Were a Rich Man," "To Life," "Sunrise, Sunset" and "Sabbath Prayer."

The production of this musical is a project of the entire Fine Arts Department at Starr's Mill. Drama instructor Stuart Fail directs the play, while choral director Dan Lane provides musical direction. Art teacher Todd Little has designed and created the sets, while band director Matt Fuller directs the pit orchestra. Stuart Fail's wife, Michelle, is the choreographer.

Tickets are $6 each and may be purchased from any cast member, by phoning the SMHS office at 770-486-2710, or at the door. A reduced price student ticket will be sold for $4 for the Thursday night show only. Fiddler on the Roof is billed as family entertainment.
