Come
June, traffic problems will be worse around Sandy
Creek Road for awhile.
The
county will close the road for eight weeks,
tentatively starting the first week of June, to
replace a culvert that pipes a tributary of
Whitewater Creek under the road about a mile
north of its intersection with Ga. Highway 54.
Before
that happens, the public works department will
publicize the closing and give alternative route
information. Detour signs will be erected, and
the Board of Education and emergency services
will be notified so they can plan accordingly.
It's
something we've got to do, said public
works director Lee Hearn. The bottom of the
culvert pipe is rusted out, he said, adding,
There will be problems there with the road
if we don't go ahead and address this.
County
workers will do some of the work, and county
commissioners last week awarded a contract to
E.R. Snell Contractors to complete the job for
$98,111.55.
