*Land around the Ga. Highway 54/Sandy Creek Road intersection is beginning to find its way inside the city limits of Fayetteville.

City Council currently is considering a request for annexation from Hayes Development Corp. for a medical office building and bank on about 3.5 acres fronting on Hwy. 54, one parcel east of Fayette Community Hospital, and a new request will reach the council next week for annexation of a proposed dental laboratory on 1.44 acres north of the intersection on Sandy Creek.

The area is in an environmentally sensitive water recharge zone, as designated by the state Department of Natural Resources, and also is a desirable location for office development, which makes annexation into the city attractive due to availability of sewerage.

Council will have first reading of the dental lab request May 3 at 7 p.m. with plans to vote May 17. The Hayes office request is tabled until July 19.

*Surplus items from all of Fayette County's governments, including office equipment, cars and trucks, farm equipment and electronics will be available for public auction May 1.

The first-ever combined auction will have dozens of items declared surplus by the county government, Board of Education and the cities of Brooks, Tyrone, Fayetteville and Peachtree City.

Items will be available for inspection at 8 a.m. for auctions at two locations: The county public works facility on McDonough Road at 10 a.m. and at the old Fayette County High School building at 2 p.m.
