The Peachtree City Christian Church began in September 1972 when 33 people met at the Peachtree City Elementary School.

There were 11 membership transfers that day and one baptism.

In April 1975, three acres of land were purchased at the corner of Wisdom Road and Riley Parkway and in December 1975 ground was broken for the first building. The first service in the new sanctuary was Easter Sunday, April 10, 1977.

A fellowship hall was added in 1985 and in 1989 an education building was also added.

The Rev. Bob Tyler came as senior minister in 1980 and has just recently retired.

The congregation outgrew this facility and in May 1998 moved into its new 500-seat capacity sanctuary on Kedron Drive, north Peachtree City.

The current pastor is George S. Dillard III, who came with the church in 1993 as the minister of church growth.

He was born in Jacksonville, Fla., where his father was in the Navy and lived in several countries. When he was 15 years old, they moved to Fairburn, where he was graduated from Campbell High School.

He then attended Atlanta Christian College, where he obtained his bachelors in Christian ministries; attended Johnson City (Tenn.) College and was graduated from Evangelical Theology Seminary in 1995, with a masters in ministry.

He is married to Reneé, who teaches fourth grade at Canongate Elementary School, and they are the parents of Tiffany, 8, and Alexis, 5.

The church offers seven different types of Adult Bible Fellowship, five different types of programs available in its adult ministries, five different programs in the children's ministries and three programs are available in student ministries.

Its mission statement reads: "We exist to lift up Jesus Christ in a loving fellowship so that he might draw the lost to salvation and the saved to discipleship and ministry in His name."

Pastor Dillard has added that the congregation is looking forward to expanding its ministry by developing even more discipleship through its local programs, outreach programs, participation in the community and additional staff to minister to local families.

Sunday morning worship services are at 9:30 for Bible Study and 10:45 for worship celebration. Wednesday evenings there is dinner at 6 and at 7, Bible fellowship.

The church is at 500 Kedron Drive; phone 770-487-9711.
