Diamonds qualify for softball World Series

The Southside Diamonds, a select softball team, recently traveled to Woodstock,Ga for The Foothills tournament, an ISA National Qualifier. The Diamonds went undefeated in tournament play and took first place, allowing them to play in the ISA World Series at the Walt Disney World Sports Complex this summer.

The Diamonds handled their first opponent, Impact, by a score of 4-3. Heather Kershaw was the winning pitcher, giving up one run on three hits while striking out four batters. Candace Moore led the offense with a triple and 2 RBIs. Sarah Scott hit a double and Chrissy Lundsford,Jessica DeMooney and Lindsay Faircloth all scored after reaching base on errors.

The Diamonds slammed their next opponents, the Alley Cats, 6-0. Jesssica DeMooney hit a homerun, Sarah Scott had 2 RBIs and Jessica Bottoms hit a triple. The Diamonds also got contributions from Candace Moore, Megan Mulcahy, Chrissy Lundsford and Ashley Embrey, all of whom had base hits in the win. Embrey was also the winning pitcher giving up only one hit and striking out six batters.

In their third game, Heather Kershaw pitched and put up the same stats as Embrey who pitched in the game before her. The Diamonds faced the Milford Raiders and beat them 4-0. They tore around the base paths during the game with Candace Moore and Jessica Bottoms each recording a steal. Bottoms also hit a controversial homerun in the fourth inning. Sarah Scott hit two RBIs for the second game in a row and Jessica Demooney chipped in with two singles. The win advanced the Diamonds into the championship game where they would face the Milford Raiders one more time.

Ashley Embrey took the mound for the Diamonds and pitched a four hitter. The Diamonds won by a score of 5-0, due mostly to some excellent hitting and base running. Jessica DeMooney and Lindsay Faircloth hit back to back doubles in the first. Faircloth would hit another double and would score after sacrifices from Candace Moore and Sarah Scott. Moore and Scott both reached the bases in the fifth inning and were brought home by a base hit from Abby Stone.

The win qualified the Southside Diamonds for the ISA World Series this summer, giving each girl the opportunity to say "After winning this game, I'm going to Disney World !"
