finish season in second
By MICHAEL BOYLAN
It was the final soccer game of the regular season for both
the Fayette County Tigers and the Upson-Lee Knights.
Upson-Lee seemed to determined to close the season out with a win and
vault themselves higher in the seedings for the regional playoffs, but
Fayette County's heart and determination was enough to keep
them at bay.
The Knights scored first, though Fayette controlled the pace
for most of the game. The Tigers were forced into a game of
catch up for most of the game however. The Tigers tied the game at
the half but went down 2-1 shortly after the second half began.
Fayette County scored to tie the game again, before going down
3-2. The Tigers got one more goal before the end of regulation
to force the game into overtime.
The Tigers forced the Knights into 20 goal kicks, meaning
that the Fayette pressure was constant around the net, just not as
accurate as it could be. Neither team scored in the overtime.
Fayette County wrapped up the second slot in the region and it appears
as though Upson-Lee will take fourth place.
Fayette County will face the Griffin Bears at Fayette
County High School in the first round of the regional playoffs. There
is still a possibility that Lovejoy would capturethe fourth seeding
, instead of Upson-Lee. The fourth seed will face the McIntosh Chiefs
at home.
