The 21st Century Leaders Club of Sandy Creek recently had a celebration of a statewide "Week of Service" with the clubs of about 20 other high schools. All applied for and received $500 grants to use for projects in their schools. Students designed ways to encourage other teens to develop interest in careers. Through the Georgia Business Forum all students have access to business professionals and mentors in a variety of careers.

The SCHS group planned a teacher mini-grant contest and invited teachers to submit creative ideas for increasing student awareness and interest in investigating careers. Each winning a $100 grant were Ms. Snider, Ms. Moore, Ms. Kearney, Ms McDaniel and Ms. Palma.

Another group project is the Connecteen Web Page, which teens can use to browse through the career files of mentors from a wide range of occupations. The teens can e-mail the adults, set up days to visit and possibly find part-time jobs or volunteer positions in fields of interest. The group is still seeking mentors for the site. A form is available on the webpage, www.connecteen.org.
