The Fayette County Chamber of Commerce Board of
Directors voted unanimously last week to support a resolution of
continued funding for the embattled Fayette County Development Authority.
"The Board feels strongly that the Fayette County
Development Authority is an important part of a countwide team whose
mission is to bring top-quality business investment to Fayette County
in order to help balance the tax digest," said treasurer Tom Farr.
"The return on investment through tax revenues to
Fayette County far exceeds the relatively modest level of funding to
the Fayette County Development Authority," said immediate
past chair Dot Kite.
"Additionally, that return on investment is critical to
the livelihood of our service, commercial and retail
businesses who in turn pay taxes to local government. As Fayette
County continues to be the location of choice for young families,
these taxes also help to fund the countywide school system."
The resolution calls for the continued funding of the
Fayette County Development Authority in an amount sufficient for
the succesful continuation of their efforts on behalf of the county.
