On Tuesday night, the Starr's Mill Lady Panthers and the
McIntosh Lady Chiefs had their opponents begging for mercy.
McIntosh hosted the East Coweta Lady Indians and Starr's Mill
traveled to Creekside. Both teams won their games by a score of 15-0,
which invokes the "Mercy Rule" and stops a game.
McIntosh put all the pressure on East Coweta but did not
score until they were awarded a penalty kick about 10 minutes into
the game. Jule Herdic took the kick and scored her first goal of
the night. The game was scoreless for another six minutes until a
deluge of Lady Chief goals came. In a matter of four minutes and
28 seconds, three goals were scored. Freshman Melanie
Schneider blasted one into the low corner of the net, followed by two
more goals from Julie Herdic. Micki Stone and Zette Bethea scored
for McIntosh to make the lead 6-0 and with eight seconds
remaining in the first half, Tabitha Lowey got a head and part of her chest
on a cross to core the seventh goal.
The Lady Chiefs put the game away in the second half by
scoring eight goals in fifteen minutes. Ansley Franke opened up the
scoring in the second half, by scoring off of a corner kick. Micki
Stone put in a goal less than a minute later. Keri Pendergrass scored
off a beautiful pass from Julie Herdic and then Herdic scored off of
a great pass from Melanie Schneider. Herdic scored the
next goal when the East Coweta goalie bobbled the shot. Micki
Stone scored 30 seconds later, followed by a slow roller from
Ansley Franke. Suddenly, East Coweta was pressuring in front of
the McIntosh goal and scored. The goal was called back though
due to offsides. Zette Bethea closed out the victory for the Lady
Chiefs a few minutes later. It was the second time in three games
that McIntosh invoked the "mercy rule on a" team.
The Lady Panthers improved their record to 5-0 as they
spanked Creekside 15-0. Kacy Murray, Janet Burke and Jenna
McEwan each had two goals. Alice Martin, Cathryn Slasinski, Lauren
Jones, Brady Ragan, Jordan Turner, Lindsay Wegryzyn, Jessie
Parsons and goalie Kristin Rutland each had one goal.
Amanda Thurber scored the fifteenth and final goal of the game.
Starr's Mill travels to Jonesboro on Friday night for a game at 5:30
p.m. McIntosh is traveling to North Carolina to face SW Guilford
on Friday and then Greensboro Day School on Saturday.
