You have probably heard that NASCAR is the fastest growing sport
in America. There is probably a good punchline there but it
is a true statement. Even non-fans can list off
current drivers and driving legends and this weekend, all
that excitement is in your backyard, so to speak.
Atlanta Motor Speedway is set to host the Cracker Barrel
Old Country Store 500. The racing and qualifying
begins on Thursday and the big race is on Sunday. How big is
the big race? Former WCW/NWO Heavyweight Champion Goldberg will be
the Grand Marshal.
The action begins on Thursday at 5 p.m. with
all six divisions of Legends racing : pro, semi-pro,
masters, chargers, bandoleros and young lions. Also on
Thursday will be qualifying for Saturday's Yellow
Freight 300 race.
On Friday, practices for all the races will run from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. It is
also Georgia boot Pole day and the day of the ARCA Johnson Industries/Easy
Care Vehicle Service Contracts 300. Saturday is the day of the Busch Series
Yellow Freight 300 and Sunday brings the Winston Cup Series Cracker Barrel
Old Country Store 500. Saturday and Sunday's races will be packed with some of
the biggest stars in NASCAR. Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin and a slew of others
are scheduled to compete in both races.
There are still tickets available for all four days of racing and
NASCAR won't be back until November. To order these tickets, call the Atlanta
Motor Speedway ticket office at (770) 946-4211 or Ticketmaster at (404)
249-6400. The tickets also can be purchased directly from ticketmaster outlets or
through direct purchases at Publix Supermarkets. The race should be one of the
most exciting and competitive races ever in the history of Atlanta Motor Speedway.
