The Carthage Choir from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. will present a Concert of Sacred Music at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 14. This second-oldest touring college choir in America has an enviable reputation for presenting spirited, expressive concerts with precision and a "love of singing." It features a wider variety of music than many college choirs, expecting that some of it will speak musically and spiritually to every listener. This year's program includes new and old music, with and without accompaniment, European and American, traditional, contemporary and folk. It will feature Regina coeli by Mozart, a triple-choir piece by Robert Page, and works by Schuetz, Brahms and Britten. The program will end with folk songs and spirituals which have pleased audiences from Denver to Prague. The choir has been directed for the past 32 years by Dr. John Windh, a native of South Dakota. Only the fourth conductor of the group since it was founded in 1926, Dr. Windh is also a busy clinician and adjudicator. He has been named Carthage's "outstanding teacher of the year" and elected to Who's Who in the Midwest. Carthage College is a 152-year-old four-year private liberal arts college of 1,500 students located on Lake Michigan between Milwaukee and Chicago. It is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Christ our Shepherd is located at 101 Peachtree Pkwy. North, Peachtree City. The public is invited to this concert, during which a free-will offering will be received. For more information, call 770-487-8717. |
