Obituaries

Gilbert H. Rios

Gilbert H. Rios, 49, Peachtree City, formerly of Bloomington, Ind., died Jan. 26, 1999. He was born Feb. 21, 1949 in New York and was the son of Gilberto and Cecilia Cruz Rios.

He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, and earned a master's degree in business from Indiana University. He was employed by the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority.

Services were held at the Allen Funeral Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Ivan Cortez officiating. Interment was at Valhalla Memorial Gardens, Bloomington.

Survivors include his wife, Monica Marrs Rios; a daughter, Miranda Cecilia Rios, both of Peachtree City; brothers, Hose Rios, Centerville, Va., Edgar Rios, Oakton, Va., David Rios, Olatha, Kan., Luis Rios, New York and Thomas Rios, Miami; and a sister, Grizel Rios, New York.

Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, Peachtree City, handled the local arrangements.

William (Bill) Coleman

William (Bill) Coleman, 83, Tyrone, died Feb. 4, 1999. He was born Dec. 9, 1915 in Fulton County, Ga. He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons, a daughter, and a grandson, Randy Coleman.

Services were held at The Rock Baptist Church, Tyrone, with the Rev. Derrell Hudgins and the Rev. Billy Whittenburger officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery.

Survivors include daughters, Gail and John W. Sorrow, Fayetteville, Carol and Douglas A. Jones, Palmetto; sisters, Irene Hembree, Atlanta, Ruby Lee Baldridge, Newnan, Daisy Barbour, Newnan, Nell Coleman, Newnan, Dorothy McCain, and Peggy Bagwell; grandchildren, Jerry Coleman, Donna Terry, Ann Weese, David White, Michael White, Deborah Leonard, Cassie Jones, Debbie Cook, Alan Sorrow and Matthew Sorrow; and stepmother, Ruby Melton, Mableton.

Memorial donations may be made to The Rock Baptist Church Building Fund, Sandy Creek Road, Fayetteville, Ga. 30214.

Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge of the arrangements.

Spencer Lee Jones

Spencer Lee Jones, 82, Fayetteville, died Feb. 6, 1999. He was born June 2, 1916 in Woolsey, Fayette County, the son of Frank W. and Palestine Glass Jones.

He had owned the first carpet store in Fayette County, was a member of the Fayetteville First Baptist Church and had served on the board of Directors of Farmers & Merchants Bank, Fayetteville.

Services were held at the Fayetteville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Stringham, the Rev. Frank Ellis and the Rev. Jack Overton officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Howell Jones; a son, Spencer Larry Jones, Greenville, S.C.; a daughter, Beth and Jim King, Fayetteville; grandchildren, Spencer King and Sara King, both of Fayetteville, and Katherine Jones and Whitaker Jones, both of Columbia, S.C.; and brothers, Joe and Hazel Jones, Fayetteville and Frank and Erma Jones, Morrow, Ga.

Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge of the arrangements.

William H. (Rock) Stone, Sr.

William Hinton (Rock) Stone, Sr., 85, Carrollton. He was born July 21, 1913 in Clarke County, Ga.

Services were held at the First United Methodist Church, Carrollton, with Dr. J. Ferrell Drummond, Dr. William M. Holt and Dr. James W. Thurman, Jr. officiating. Interment was at Carroll Memory Gardens, Carrollton.

Survivors include his wife, Martha L. Stone, Carrollton; sons, William Hinton and Vivian Stone, Jr., Riverdale, Robert J. "Bob" and Tish Stone and Thomas E. "Tom" and Pat Stone, Carrollton; a brother, Joseph C. Stone, Fayetteville; and sisters, Elizabeth Wallace, Ringgold and Dorothy Tappan, Athens.

There are 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

John A. Harper

John A. Harper, 92, Riverdale, died Feb. 11, 1999. He was born Dec. 16, 1906 in Fayette County and was the son of Lela and Mattie Haisten Harper.

Services were held at the Carl J. Mowell Chapel, Fayetteville with the Rev. Jeff Lowe and the Rev. William Lacy officiating. Interment was at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Jonesboro, Ga.

Survivors include his daughters, Ruthie Brown, Fayetteville, and Betty and Ferrell Couch, Riverdale; five grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Edwina Jones Rabbitt

Edwina Jones Rabbitt, 61, Fayetteville, died Feb. 14, 1999. She was born Nov. 20, 1937 in Union, Tenn.

A funeral mass was held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Peachtree City, with Father John Walsh and Father James Sexstone officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City.

Survivors include her husband of 37 years, James Patrick Rabbitt, Fayetteville; a son, Jay Rabbitt, Fayetteville; granddaughters, Payton Rabbitt and Jaycie Rabbitt, both of Fayetteville; and sisters, Bettye Hartline, Albany, Ga. and Jane Powell, Brownsville, Tenn.
