International sound at Spivey

*The Czech Girls' Choir Jitro will perform at Spivey Hall Saturday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. The choir was founded in the city of Hradec Kralove in 1973 and won its first major prize, Czechoslovakia's Golden Palm, in 1979. Since then, Jitro, which translates as "daybreak," has won numerous competitions including first prize at the International Competition Lunentus Mundi Cantat in June 1998. Tickets for this concert are $10, available through the Spivey Hall ticket office at 770-961-3683.

* At 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, the Pan African Orchestra brings 30 of the top musicians in Ghana to Spivey Hall for a special performance.

The Pan African orchestra plays traditional instruments, such as kora, flute, balaphone, African violin and fontonfrom drums to present a repertoire that draws on the vast African musical culture to create a new classical music.

Tickets are $25 and are available from the Spivey Hall ticket office, 770-961-3683.
