The Brooks Town Council last week got a look at the town's new zoning map, and promptly found an error.

Mayor Bobby Butler said that a piece of land annexed in 1994 was not shown, and he would get with the map company to correct the omission.

The council approved a motion for the mayor to sign a contract with Georgia Interlocal Risk Management Agency (GIRMA) for insurance on town building, including the water and sewer property and the library. The premium will be $2,800 a year and while this is an increase of $800 over the old company, the coverage is much greater.

The council thought it had completed its obligation in tendering a Solid Waste Disposal Plan, but learned that it must also record the amount of solid waste gathered. Mayor Butler had problems getting that information from its contractor and the contractor will be required to appear at its next meeting.

Registration for Spring activities at the Recreation Center was announced as the last three days in February.

The cost for T-ball is $75 and for everything above that classification, the fee will be $100.00.

Councilmember, Caroline Smith, related that 1,469 Commemorative Coke bottles have been pre-sold and that the order would be placed this week. The council voted to purchase 50 bottles itself to be used as gifts in the future.

Brooks Town Librarian, Fran Beckom, appeared before the Town Council concerning the library budget for the year, requesting that any overage at the end of the fiscal year remain in the library funds.

She also expressed concern about a $651 budget error in the 1997-98 fiscal year. The council decided to examine the matter again in May, before reaching a decision.

A school patron has kept a Literature book out of circulation since last July, and Beckom stated that she had sent a number of letters and made several phone calls, but it has not yet been returned. The council decided to seek the advice of its attorney in the matter.
