Residents who want to spruce up their historic buildings can get helpful tips in two workshops set for the next few weeks.

The Newnan-Coweta Historical Society, along with the Senoia Historical Society, the Grantville Preservation Commission, the Moreland Historical Society, Newnan Main Street and the Chatt-Flint Regional Development Center are offering the workshops to help owners of historic buildings.

The workshop series will provide practical advice to owners of both historic homes and commercial buildings. The workshops are free of charge and each sponsoring organization invites its members to attend.

On Feb.23, "Practical Guides to Planning Your Restoration Project" will be offered at the second floor meeting room at the historic Newnan-Carnegie library building in downtown Newnan.

Tommy Jones, preservation consultant and former restoration director with the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation will lead the discussion, starting at 7 p.m.

On March 23 at 7 p.m, the focus of the workshop will be tax incentives and preservation standards. Lee Webb, tax incentives coordinator, and Michael Miller, preservation architect with the Georgia Historic Preservation, will chair the workshop.
