to St. Paul Lutheran St. Paul Lutheran School in Peachtree City has been participating in the Aid Association for Lutherans' "Have a Ball Volunteer!" program. The program rewards Lutheran schools and their students who perform community service projects as a way off encouraging volunteeerism among America's youth. A total of 150 students and teachers from St. Paul's visited with the elderly, wrote to missionaries, participated in a Hunger Walk and sponsored a food drive. As a result, they have received a grant of $800. The programs grants, which range from $200 to $800 for elementary schools and $1,000 to $3,000 for high school, may be used for any educational need or charitable cause chosen by teachers and students. St. Paul's is in its second year of operation and second year of participating in the program. They have not settled on exactly how the money will be used, but according to Cindy Robertson of St. Paul's, it will likely go toward equipment needed by the school. The Have a Ball Volunteer! program is one of many AAL volunteer programs geared toward youth. It is one of the steps AAL is taking to fulfill its pledge to "America's Promise The Alliance for Youth," a not-for-profit organization led by Gen. Colin Powell (U.S. ArmyRet.). |
