for President's Day weekend
Join the Peachtree City Paddlers Feb. 13, 14 and 15,
President's Day weekend, for a trip down two scenic Florida rivers
near Gainesville: The Santa Fe and the Ichetucknee. This is a long
weekend for students and an easy five -hour drive straight down
Interstate 75. Many of us plan to enjoy the three days paddling.
This trip is perfect for those who have been wanting to paddle but are
a little intimidated by the cold winter whitewater. With crystal
clear water, these two rivers are flatwater but replete with wildlife
and scenery. The Santa Fe and the Ichetucknee rivers originate
from springs in underwater caverns; paddling them is like paddling
on top of an aquarium. Also snorkeling near the blue hole caves
provides an interesting view into the underwater world. Canoe
rentals are readily available, the water and weather are usually warm
and families are welcome. Camping accommodations can be found
at O'Leno State Park and good, inexpensive motels are nearby.
No excuses to avoid this adventure! Call the trip leaders, Pat and
Lee Hudgens, for more information at 770-486-0328.
Roll practice continues at the Kedron Aquatic Center, Feb.
14 and 28 and Mar. 14 and 28. Meet outside the bubble door at
5:15 p.m. with clean boats. We will enter as a group at 5:30.
Experienced boaters are available to help those who want to learn
the kayak roll. The cost is $5 per person to cover pool and
lifeguard expenses. Call Margo Booth for more details at 770-487-8084.
