Fisharama coming to Atlanta

Take the weekend off from fishing to stock up on new equipment and learn fishing tips from master anglers at the biggest and best Georgia Wildlife Federation Fisharama ever. Anglers will be amazed by the selection of fishing equipment offered here at the lowest prices of the season. The Fisharama tradition continues in 1999 with an incredible lineup of seminar speakers on hand to share sporting secrets and techniques. The 1999 event will also include the second annual Georgia Wildlife Federation Duckarama, featuring a world-class selection of duck hunting products and a calling contest.

On February 5,6 and 7, the Georgia Wildlife Federation will host the Atlanta Fisharama and Duckarama at the Atlanta Expo Center. Doors are open Friday, 1 to 9 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for seniors and children ages 6 to 12. Children under the age of six will be admitted free.

Bring the entire family to see dozens of big bass in the Skoal Bass Tub. This eye-catching tank is an educational pool where bass professionals will make hourly presentations, including demonstrations on casting and lures. Fishing masters who will offer free seminars throughout the weekend include Kim Carver, winner of the $100,000 Red Man Operation Bass Tournament. Carver will share some of the fishing tips that helped him achieve his big wins and will sign autographs. Judy Helmey holds Georgia angling records for barracuda, cobia, red drum, triggerfish and other species. In her seminar, showgoers will learn how to bottom fish for snapper and grouper and troll in green and blue waters. Other educational speakers include David Newlin, one of the best deep-sea fisherman around with more than 20 years experience fishing off the Georgia coast, and Joey Mines, host of Outdoors with Joey Mines, which airs on Sports South and the Outdoor Channel.

Get kids hooked on fishing at the Rainbow trout Fishing Hole, where children ages 12 and under fish free, and enter them in the Bassmasters Casting Kids Contest. The contest is open to children ages 7-14 and will be held Friday, 1-9 p.m. and Saturday, 1-9 p.m. The state casting finals are Sunday, February 7 at 1 p.m.

Everyone who attends the Fisharama receives a free chance to win valuable door prizes including the grand prize: a Sundance bass boat with Mercury outboard motor, Motorguide trolling motor and Performance trailer. Other prizes include a gulf stream fishing trip with Captain Judy Helmey and a two day, two night Suwanee River houseboat vacation by Miller Marine.

Anglers and duck hunters won't want to miss the sales of the season and educational opportunities at this annual tradeshow. Come to the Atlanta Fisharama and Duckarama at the Atlanta Expo Center on Jonesboro Road, just inside I-285 at Exit 40. Parking is free and the building is heated.
