Goals to keep in mind for weight-loss resolutions

Each year, millions of Americans make New Year's resolutions to lose weight, but lack the tools and knowledge to reach their goals. However, with confidence, a commitment to change, and a bit of perseverance, New Year's resolutions to lose weight can be achieved.

The following Weight Watchers' Top Ten List offers a few helpful tips to keep in mind as you set your goal to lose weight in 1999.

10. Make sure your resolution is realistic. Can you see yourself doing this? Is it within your control?

9. Are you willing to do what it takes to realize your goal? If you want to lose weight, are you are willing to make the necessary changes?

8. Make a plan! What weight loss program best suits your lifestyle? Is it a program your physician approves of?

7. Break the plan down into "do-able chunks," daily, weekly and monthly! Don't focus on the total weight you have to lose, take it one day at a time!

6. Reward yourself for small successes. Make the reward fit the accomplishment. Every five to 10 pounds do something special just for you!

5. Share your success. Get praise from other people. Accept compliments graciously!

4. Track your progress. Make a chart. Keep a diary. Be able to recognize and accept how far you have come!

3. Revisit your resolution periodically to make sure its still appropriate for you. Are you trying to lose too much? How comfortable do you feel? Are you succeeding? Make any necessary adjustments. Fine-tune your goal.

2. Stay focused! Remember your resolution is something you really want. Focus on doing what it takes and making it happen.

1. Plan your celebration for the day you reach your goal. See yourself there visualize who you will be with, what you will wear and how you will feel.
