With nearly 100,000 customers already making the switch from Atlanta Gas Light Company to one of the Georgia Public Service Commission's approved marketers, gas deregulation in Georgia is off to a record-breaking beginning. Providing increased customer service and competitive pricing, gas deregulation gives the power of choice to the consumer. That choice increases the competition among the marketers and allows market forces to set the prices for natural gas. "No other energy customer choice effort has enjoyed such success at such an early stage," said Atlanta Gas Light Company president Paula Rosput. "The 19 certified marketers have clearly captured the attention and business of a significant number of Atlanta Gas Light customers. Customers have responded enthusiastically in exercising their right to choose a marketer and begin reaping the benefits." Once a consumer has selected a new marketer, Atlanta Gas Light Company will work with the newly selected marketer to complete the customer's switch to a new service. Marketers providing Atlanta Gas Light's accurate customer name and account number will assure prompt processing of switch requests. Customers' switch requests must be submitted six days before the first of the next month before the switch to a marketer's service can begin.
