Leola Blair

Leola S. Blair, 83, Moreland, died Jan. 7, 1999. She was born June 20, 1915 in Coweta County, Ga., the daughter of Sam Jones and Willie Lee Winkles Shaw, Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leverette Levi Blair.

Services were held at the McKoon Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Ramah Baptist Church, Newnan.

Survivors include a son, Jerry E. Blair, Stockbridge; daughters, Nancy McKinney, Moreland, Rose McKinney, Corpus Christi, Texas, Dorothy and Steve Robinson, Peachtree City and Janet and Leon Simpson, Tyrone; and a sister, Virginia Barge, Sharpsburg.

There are 25 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Upchurch

Robert Eugene "Bobby" Upchurch, 63, Tyrone, died Dec. 25, 1998. He was born Feb. 8, 1935 in Fulton County, Ga. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church for over 40 years and had served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of U.A.W. #882 and was retired from Ford Motor Assembly plant in Hapeville.

Services were held at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lawrence Burge and the Rev. Parks Davis officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery, Stewart Avenue, Atlanta.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly W. Upchurch, Tyrone; sons, Walker Eugene Upchurch and Stephen Wise and Kimberly Upchurch, all of Sharpsburg; a daughter Lisa Upchurch and Andy Pitman, Fayetteville; grandchildren, Drew and Jake Pitman, Hailey Upchurch and Logan Upchurch; brothers and sisters, Laura Hayes, Elmer T. Upchurch, Jr., David Upchurch, Juanita Payne and Kenneth Upchurch; and his mother-in-law, Minnie Lee Wise, Fayetteville.

Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge of the arrangements.

Ronnie Pope

Ronnie Pope, 35, Newnan, died Jan. 8, 1999. He was born April 11, 1963 in Coweta County, Ga. He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Pope.

Services were held at the McKoon Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Dean officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan.

Survivors include his father, J. D. Pope; a brother, Bobby Pope; and sisters, Mary Ann Hammonds and Martha Smith, all of Newnan.

Bonnie McCalla

Bonnie Lovett McCalla, 49, Newnan, died Jan. 9, 1999. She was born March 11, 1949 in East Point, Ga. She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Brantley Lovett. She had been a co-owner of Newnan Tax Service and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newnan.

Services were held at the McKoon Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Parrish officiating. Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery, Atlanta, Ga.

Survivors include her husband, James R. McCalla, Jr., Newnan; sons, James Brantley McCalla and Matthew Jason McCalla; and a daughter, Devin Elizabeth McCalla, all of Newnan; her mother, Dorothy Shepard, East Point, Ga., and a brother, Gary Lovett, Stockbridge, Ga.

Grover Maughon

Grover Gaines Maughon, 75, Newnan, died Jan. 7, 1999. He was born Aug. 8, 1923 in Richland, Ga. He was killed in an automobile accident in Mexico, Mo. He had served in World War II as a Navy pilot, flying planes from aircraft carriers.

He had worked at Delta Air Lines as a pilot for six years and worked for Sears Roebuck and Co., for 24 years. He then went to work for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association as a writer of training manuals and then as crusade director, serving with them for 27 years.

He received his bachelor's degrees from Georgia State University and the University of Georgia in business and science.

Services were held at the First Baptist Church, Newnan, with Franklin Graham and Dr. Gene Tyre officiating. Interment was at the College Park Cemetery, College Park, Ga.

Survivors include his wife, Marcie Maughon, Newnan; sons, Bob Castle, Eugene, Ore. and Dr. Greg and Jennifer Castle, Portland, Ore.; daughters, Rebekah and Lonnie Maddox, Fayetteville, Ga. and Jane Parkman, Mesa, Ariz.; grandchildren, Matthew Maddox and Erin Elizabeth Maddox, both of Fayetteville, and Abigail Castle and Samantha Castle, both of Portland, Ore.; a brother, Dr. James Maughon, Atlanta; and sisters, Emma Stephens, Valdosta, Ga. and Jane MacMillen, Athens, Ga.
