Four public hearings, each subject debated in previous incarnations, highlight the agenda for the Peachtree City Council meeting tomorrow at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

The hearings will involve changing the wording of the moratorium on multifamily housing rezonings; variances for rear fences along Wisdom Road in the Fairfield subdivision; a traffic signal at Wynnmeade Parkway and Ga. Highway 54, which may be moved to serve the new Line Creek Parkway and the main road through Wynnmeade closed to Hwy. 54 access; and a rezoning for The Mews, an upscale retail development proposed for Hwy. 54 and Walt Banks Road on the city's east side.

A developer has asked for hardship rezoning consideration for an assisted living facility, which seems to fall under the "multifamily housing" ban. The city attorney will present a suggested rewording of the moratorium to speed up the reconsideration process for those who feel they are "severely damaged" by the ban.

Council will consider a blanket variance to allow Fairfield residents to put up six-foot fences to ameliorate noise and lights from a convenience store at Wisdom Road and Hwy. 74. The normal height for rear fences facing a collector road is four feet, but the "stockade" look will be relieved by additional landscaping.

Residents of Wynnmeade are expected to speak about the Line Creek Parkway situation, which would mean rerouting Wynnmeade residents onto a collector road that also would serve a large apartment complex and cluster-home subdivision approved for the "west village" area.

Developer John Callaway will try again to persuade city officials that his project, The Mews, is best for the land at Walt Banks and Hwy. 54, though residents have objected to the size and scope of the project. City planners have said that Callaway's plan is "excellent," but recommended denial of a needed rezoning of part of the property. The planning commission did not support the rezoning. (A letter from Callaway in support of the rezoning is on Page 4A of this issue.)

Other items scheduled for the meeting include a franchise agreement with Newnan Utilities; oath of office and election of mayor pro tem; city staff appointments; alcohol license changes for Rosemary Cafe and Mexico City Gourmet, and an amendment to the heavy truck ordinance.
