Coweta County's Ruth Hill Elementary School has been named one of Georgia's 30 1999 Georgia Schools of Excellence. This year, 105 Georgia schools were nominated for the awards. Panels of Georgia educators from each of the state's 11 congressional districts reviewed the nominees. "Being selected as either a Georgia School of Excellence or a National Blue Ribbon School is one of the highest honors our schools can receive," said State School Superintendent of Education Linda Schrenko. Recipients of the Georgia School of Excellence awards were selected on criteria including student focus, quality of instruction and quality of long-range planning.
