Coweta students could be hearing the clang of the school bell next Aug. 2, if the proposed school calendar is passed by the Coweta County Board of Education. The early start has some parents wondering if Coweta is trying to head to a year-round school calendar, but Superintendent of Education Richard Brooks said that's the furthest thing from the school board's mind. "For the last couple of years, we've been trying to end the first semester before the Christmas break and this calendar allows us to do that," he said. Included in the calendar are two intercession periods after the first and third nine-week sessions of school. The intercession periods will allow those students who may have fallen behind to have a make-up session to get caught up, the superintendent said. If approved, the students would have a Christmas break from Dec. 17 through Jan. 5 and the last day of school would be May 26. The board will consider adoption of the calendar at its Jan. 12 meeting.
