Students welcome Santa

Curly white beard and hair tucked under a scarlet cap couldn't hide the youthful vitality and enthusiasm of McIntosh High School's senior "Santa" Jonathan Philpot as he intently listened to a litany of requests for Barbies, Teletubbies, Furbys and Hotwheels at the first-ever student-sponsored Santa breakfast.

Organized by Diane Lattimore's international business class for seniors, the pancake and sausage breakfast raised approximately $500 for the Friday Home for Fayette County youths.

Children attending the morning event had an opportunity to have their pictures snapped with Santa and tick off items on their gift lists. Teletubbies surfaced as the "most asked for" toy for the preschool set, according to Santa, followed by the usual Barbies, trucks and games.

Santa confided that a '98 sleigh topped his wish list.

The business class is comprised of students who also run a working company called McIntosh International Trading Company. Their import/export business expects to receive a shipment of Scottish wool scarves before Christmas. They in turn, export Georgia-made products to Scotland. Students in the class who helped organize Saturday's event included Jeff Miller, Jonathan Philpot, Ashley Tucker, Dana Wright, Nic Dixon, Matt Kelso, Nicholas Kaigler, Chris Massman and Nathan Bender.
