Residents in the Sargent community of Coweta County can breathe a little easier, thanks to the efforts of the Coweta County Commission.

The commission approved Vital Care as the county's ambulance service Tuesday afternoon. The board approved Vital Care's alternate bid of $211,000 for the service. The ambulance company had bid $238,000 for the primary bid, which included an ambulance at Sargent.

The county decided to purchase its own ambulance and equip it at the fire station, which Commissioner Charlie Jones estimated would save the county more than $70,000 over the life of the three-year contract.

In other news, the county unanimously approved a nomination to the Zoning Board of Appeals without releasing the name to the public.

Commissioner Vernon "Mutt" Hunter told the commissioners that he had a candidate for the recently vacated position, but had not talked to the resident yet about taking the job. Hunter passed around a piece of paper with the candidate's name to the other commissioners and said he would release the name of the candidate at the next commission meeting.
