Noel November raises more than $10,000 for Brooks youth home

The Fayette County Board of REALTORS® has once again exceeded its fund-raising goal for its annual "Noel November A Celebration of Trees and Wreaths."

Winning trees from this year's showing included the following:

* Best of Show - "Southern Charm" from Century 21 Southern Crescent, a third year participant in the event.

*The People's Choice Award and Best Theme Tree - "The Wizard of Oz" from Torrey Homes, a second year participant.

* Most Creative Tree - "The Essence of Fayette Is Naturally Splendid" from Jan Trammell Real Estate, a fourth year participant.

* Children's Award - "A Child's Delight" from CRS Pathways, a second year participant.

The Best Wreath Award was presented to Our Father's House. The fourth "Noel November", one of the highlights of the Christmas season for the community and one of the association's major community service projects each year, was held Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Kiwanis Field Fairgrounds, located on Redwine Road in Fayetteville.

Each year, all proceeds are donated to a worthwhile local non-profit organization, and this year, the Fayette County Board of REALTORS® determined to raise a minimum of $10,000 to provide playground and recreation equipment for the Asden Johnson Youth Protection Home in Brooks.

While all the numbers from this year's "Noel November" are not yet in, the local REALTORS® organization is already assured of surpassing its goal of proceeds from the event.

The day's activities featured a public showing of the trees and wreaths during the morning and afternoon, followed by an auction that night. Special entertainment during the day included the Southland Barbership Quartet, directed by Bill Rach; and the White Oak Elementary School Chorus, directed by Mary Jane Miles. That evening, entertainment included Connie King, flautist, accompanied by Mary McGowan; Sally Mikat, soloist, accompanied by Dan Mikat; Music Alive; and pianist Michelle Urda.

The trees and wreaths featured in "Noel November" were contributed by local businesses, organizations, and individuals. In addition, the festival has always attracted a large group of sponsors who help with the cost of putting it together.

Michaele Gatheridge and Martha Hayhurst were the co-chairs of the "Noel November". Judging the trees and wreaths were Asden Johnson, the person for whom the Youth Protection Home is named; Raymond Morris, president, Georgia Association of REALTORS®; and John B. Newman, group general manager (P&A), MCC Panasonic. Bill MacDonald served as auctioneer.
