Firefighters to collect cans of food for needy

Peachtree City volunteer firefighters plan to collect over 1,000 cans of food for the needy on their sixth annual "Santa Run" for the next two weekends, says Steve Fodor.

The Volunteer Firefighters Association, comprising both volunteer and career members of the Peachtree City Fire Department, will start Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 5 and 6) by bringing Santa on a fire truck to neighborhoods north of Ga. Highway 54 and west of Ga. Highway 74. Other neighborhoods will be visited Dec. 12 and 13.

"Listen for the sirens to know when Santa's in your neighborhood," Fodor said, "and bring out your canned goods." He added that it's nearly impossible to visit all neighborhoods, but Santa will be in most of them.

Canned goods will be given to Fayette Samaritans for distribution to needy families in the county, he said. For more information stop by Station 82 on Peachtree Parkway across from the A&P shopping center.
