degree program expanded at CCSU The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia has announced the unanimous approval of Clayton College & State University's proposal to expand the university's offerings of both the BA and BS degrees in Integrative Studies (IS) via distance learning. The new "at-a-distance" IS degrees will include Web-based courses and telecourses offered by CCSU, other institutions in the Atlanta region via the Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education, and colleges and universities around the world. It is anticipated that the first students to graduate from CCSU with IS degrees using the on-line option would do so in May 2000. A total of 26 CCSU courses were offered through distance learning in the 1998 Fall Semester. Also included in the Regents' action is CCSU's becoming a part of the Southern Regional Electronic Campus and offering IS degrees through that organization to students throughout the southeastern United States. As a result, students pursuing these degrees can work directly with CCSU faculty members to design a program of courses and internships that prepare them for careers, while at the same time availing themselves of the convenience and challenge of learning online via telecourses and other distance learning methods. In addition, the expansion of the IS programs to on-line capabilities means that students who previously had to transfer to other colleges and universities for courses and programs not offered at CCSU can remain at CCSU and fashion more customized career-oriented degrees. Students interested in the IS degree should contact Dr. John Kohler, acting dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at 770-961-3642 or at johnkohler@mail.clayton.edu. Additional information is also available through the Integrative Studies website http://www.is.clayton.edu. Clayton College & State University, a member institution of the University System of Georgia, is located in Morrow in south metro Atlanta. |
