National Heights Baptist members author annual Advent booklet

Members of National Heights Baptist Church in Fayetteville have completed their annual Advent Devotionals booklet. More than 200 have been sent to the people on their church bulletin mailing list.

The 33-page booklet features daily devotionals from Nov. 30 through Christmas Day, written by individual members of the church.

"Every year we put out a list of Scriptures for each day," said church secretary Carol Walls. "Volunteers pick a scripture, write a devotional, and turn it in by a certain date."

"These four weeks of worship, prayer and rereading of the story of Jesus' birth will renew in us the joy of this season," reads the booklet's introduction. "As you worship, you will find the true meaning of Christmas and the true spirit of the Christ Child."

The church has published the Advent booklets for at least the past 10 or 12 years, said the Rev. Dr. William Scarbrough, pastor. "This is just one of the ways we celebrate Advent in our church," he noted.

Featured authors in this year's booklet are Cynthia Herndon, Barbara Hood, Alan and Kathy Tingle, Joann Turner, Martha Wright, Martha Daniell, Mal Williams, Dorothy Hendrickson, Fred Hood, Charles Prouty, Connie Gouge, Terry Clayton, Fred Hood, Jim Qualls, Louie Chance, Fred Lusk, Gary Green, Minor Gouge, Margaret Clarke, Betty Hardy, Suzie Lusk, Phil Neupert, Vivian Bullock and Wendy Wilson.
