benefit from
Dec. 5 book sale

Donating a book or two, or more, to a special sale Dec. 5 could make you acquainted with some very good Friends of the Library.

The quarterly sales sponsored by the Friends of the Library help fund important library programs, including the best-seller leasing program, "Books for Babies," and summer reading clubs, said Friends spokesperson Evelyn Bost. The organization is encouraging donations of children's books, recent best-sellers, classics and "any other books in good condition," Bost said.

Bargain prices help boost the sales, and the profits go directly back to the Fayette County Public Library, located at 1821 Heritage Parkway. Books may be dropped off at the library, or arrangements may be made for pickup by calling Bost at 770-719-0638 or Denise Fair at 770-719-3501.

This year, 1,370 Fayette children read 22,508 books during the summer. One hundred teens read 337 books, and 300 adults were enrolled in the summer reading club.

"Books for Babies" is a new literacy program to acquaint parents of newborns with the important role they play in the development of their children, Bost commented. Funded by a $1,000 donation from Drs. Elizabeth and G. Richard Moore, "Books for Babies" was kicked off by a recent reception. The program provides a book bag for parents, containing a baby book, a book for parents, pamphlets on early reading and baby's first library card.

The next Friends of the Library book sale is Dec. 5, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the library. For more information call 770-461-8841.
