Correction

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

In the story in The Sunday Citizen titled, "Ga. Baptists discuss controversial issues," the Rev. Chuck Griffith, pastor of the Fayette Assembly of God, was quoted incorrectly about a practice known as "speaking in tongues." The following correction and clarification was provided by Griffith.

"The Assemblies of God (and most other Pentecostal denominations) believe that a person is saved by grace through faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ alone. Following salvation and distinct from salvation, we believe there is an additional work of grace known in Pentecostal groups as the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. This experience gives believers power to be witnesses (Acts1:8). It is this experience (the Baptism of the Holy Spirit) that Pentecostals believe is evidenced by speaking in tongues as in Acts 2, 10, and 19."

It is the policy of The Citizen to correct all errors of fact upon notification.
