City of Fayetteville officials, along with Main Street officials, closed out the purchase of the Holliday-Dorsey-Fife House Monday morning.
The sellers, Wayne and Judy Bramblett, received a check in the amount of $225,000 for purchase of the c. 1855 home on Lanier Street, West.
The funds came from a $1.15 million bond issue that was approved the first of November. The receipts will be used to refurbish both the Holliday
House and the Hollingsworth House. The latter was donated by Fayetteville First Baptist Church and the house was moved two months ago to sit beside the
Fayette County Administrative Complex.
All of this is a part of Vision 2020, Main Street's plan to revitalize the city's historic downtown area.
"We are pleased that the house will be preserved," the Brambletts said. "Its heritage belongs to the community."
"This is an important day," said Fayetteville Mayor Mike Wheat. "The house represents the history of our community and is one more important step in
our Main Street program."
Fayetteville City Councilman Al Hovey-King, chairman of the Main Street Program, commented that today "was the culmination of several years of effort
and hard work, and we are very pleased with the outcome."
