Bicycle club gets moving

The inaugural meeting of the Biking for Life in Fayette County Bicycle Club included the nomination and acceptance of the club's slate of officers, an open discussion to address club mission and goals, and the introduction of guests Susan Snead of the Newnan Bicycle Club and Dennis Hoffarth of the Atlanta Bicycle Club.

The club officers are Carleton Williams, president; Ken Almand, vice president for education; Glenn Simpson, vice president for public relations; Ray Nelson, vice president for membership; Stephanie Pawlowski, treasurer; Ann Nunan, secretary; and Linda Mackey, sergeant at arms. Twenty-nine persons attended the meeting and there are more than 50 who are now on the club's roster.

Club members discussed establishing ride options, including sponsors and levels, and were informed that area bike shops have regularly scheduled rides as well. It was suggested that the four bicycle clubs that are within a 25-mile radius meet together monthly.

Dick Allis announced that he repairs donated bikes for needy children and also provides helmets to those in need. His phone number is 770-487-9956.

For more information on the new bicycle club call Carleton Williams at 770-461-1880.
