Developers could soon start paying impact fees to the town of Tyrone after the Town Council gave their blessings to an impact fee ordinance last Thursday. Before the impact fee can be assessed, town officials said the Department of Community Affairs will have to give the ordinance a final look-over. The ordinance calls for a $1,075 fee for each new residential lot on the town. Proceeds from the impact fee will help fund the town's ambitious $3.42 million capital improvement project that will add parks, a new government complex and new ballfields to the town's inventory. The impact fees can only be used to build items that need upgrading because of the growth in the town. In earlier discussions about the impact fee, Councilman Ray Bogenschutz expressed reluctance about committing the town to finding $1.3 million of the money to fund the projects. But Mayor Richard Santiago said the town was not committing any town money towards anything, and the proposed projects are merely a guideline the town will use. During the collection of the impact fees, the town has the option of changing or deleting projects from the list. If projects are deleted, the town would have to return a portion of the fee to developers, said town manager Barry Amos.
