Science-By-Mail gives kids
hands-on experience

Today's children are growing up in a world that is continually changing and growing. From the Internet to the Mars probe to advancements in modern medicine, we live with the constant reminder that science is a part of our everyday lives. Knowing that, the Museum of Science, Boston offers a program to help children get excited about science.

Science-By-Mail, now in its 10th year, sends 4th-9th grade children two hands-on science activity packets in the mail, as well as the name and address of a real scientist who will act as their mentor. The activity packet topics this year include flight, simple machines, science magic, imaging, communications and a new topic about living in space.

Children can register for Science-By-Mail either at home or in school in small teams of one to four or as an entire class of up to 28. For information on topics, fees and registration, call 1-800-729-3300 or e-mail them at sbm@mos.org. Their website is www.mos.org.
