Obituaries
Irvin W. Whittington

Irvin W. Whittington, 84, Fayetteville, died Oct. 12, 1998. He was born Oct. 3, 1914 in Omega, Tift County, Ga.

Services were held at Harp's Crossing Baptist Church with Dr. Dennis Watson officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Survivors include his wife, Earline Smith Whittington, Fayetteville; a son, Dennis Whittington, Fayetteville; a daughter, Faye and Ronnie Hawkins, Douglasville; a grandson, Brian and Julie Hawkins, Carrollton; a granddaughter, Christy and Ryan Hammond, Hiram; brothers, Frank Whittington and James and Pat Whittington, all of Norman Park, Ga., and Ellis and Laverne Whittington, Omega; sisters, Virginia Finks, Marietta and Clara and Rayborn Willis, College Park.

There are three great-grandsons.

Hester Ann Landrum

Hester Ann Landrum, 105, Peachtree City, died Oct. 10, 1998. She was born March 2, 1893 in Toccoa, Ga., one of 15 children. She worked for Southern Bell Telephone for 42 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was a member of the Tenth Street United Methodist Church and the Spring Lake Garden Club. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed ceramics and china painting.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Thomas and a grandson, Michael Thomas.

Services were held at the Carl J. Mowell Chapel, Fayetteville with interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Atlanta.

Survivors include a son, Joe and Leila Landrum, Sharpsburg, Ga.; a sister, Grace Agnew, Greenwood, S.C.; and a son-in-law, Emile Thomas, Bogart, Ga.

There are five grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 13 great-greatgrandchildren.

Jeffrey K. Cash

Jeffrey K. Cash, 34, Peachtree City, died Oct. 13, 1998. He was born May 29, 1964 in Atlanta.

Services were held at the First United Methodist Church, Peachtree City, with the Rev. Chuck Hodges officiating.

Survivors include his mother, Laura J. Winter, Peachtree City; children Dylan Keyes Cash, and Melissa Sarah Cash, both of Fairburn; grandparents, Leonard and Virginia Cash, Peachtree City; and a nephew, Jon Cash, Walkill, N.Y.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 135 Bradford Square, Ste. B, Bradford Square Business Park, Fayetteville, Ga. 30214 or the Fayette County Humane Society/Animal Shelter, 849 Hwy. 74, S., Peachtree City, Ga. 30269.

Virginia B. Johnson

Virginia B. Johnson, 89, Peachtree City, died Oct. 11, 1998. She was born May 24, 1909 in Missouri.

Memorial services will be announced.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan B. Ross and friend, Terry D. Stewart, Sharpsburg; grandsons, Michael C. Ross, Savannah and Robert C. Ross, Jonesboro; granddaughters, Carol Hall, Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Suzie Eckstein, Port Orchard, Wash.; and a daughter-in-law, Sumie Eckstein, Ewa Beach, Hawaii.

There are seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Katherine Elise Marvin

Katherine Elise "Dolly" Marvin, 79, Sharpsburg, died Oct. 12, 1998. She was born Nov. 10, 1918 in New York.

Services were held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father John Walsh officiating.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur Emil Marvin, Sharpsburg; sons, Arthur G. and Janet Marvin, Port Jefferson, N.Y., William C. and Eileen Marvin, Garden City, N.Y., Charles and Sandra Marvin, Peachtree City, George and Sally Marvin, Dallas, Texas and Frank J. and Kimberley Marvin, Sharpsburg; and a daughter, Barbara and George Heatwole, Sharpsburg.

There are 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Lena Holbrook Bullard

Lena Holbrook Bullard, the widow of Bullard Realty Company founder Cliff Bullard, died Monday, Oct. 19. She was 78 years of age.

A native of Austell, Mrs. Bullard was a longtime resident of South Fulton County and had most recently resided in the Christian City Community. A former member of North Atlanta Baptist Church and Beecher Hills Baptist Church, she was a member of Southwest Christian Church at the time of her death.She was also active in the AARP and the garden club.

In 1956, Mrs. Bullard and her husband Cliff founded what is now Coldwell Banker Bullard Realty in a small office on Gordon Street in South Atlanta, and she worked as the office administrator for the first two decades of the company's existence. Her husband died in 1991, and the company, which presently has seven locations, is now headed up by their son, Steve Bullard of Jonesboro.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 21, in the chapel of Parrott Funeral Home in Fairburn with Minister Jim Dyer and Dr. James Donovan officiating. Interment was in Westview Cemetery. The family asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Southwest Christian Hospice, 7225 Lester Road, Union City, GA 30291.

Survivors, besides her son Steve,include her daughter and son-in- law, Susan and Jeff Gavens of Crabapple; daughter-in-law, Rebekah Bullard of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Scott Hulsey, Lawrenceville, Brian Hulsey, Atlanta, and Marcus Bullard, Jonesboro; sisters, Anna Henry of Decatur and Elizabeth Jordan of Sandy Springs; brother, Harold Holbrook of Mableton; nieces, and nephews.

Daisy Skelton Dobbs

Daisy Skelton Dobbs, 75, Peachtree City, died Oct. 18, 1998. She was born April 19, 1923 in Atlanta, the daughter of John Esber and Annie Lou Johnson Skelton.

Services were held at the Carl J. Mowell Chapel, Peachtree City, with Dr. Harold Allen and the Rev. Howard Tisdale officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Elbert J. Dobbs; daughters, Carolyn and Larry Loyd, Zebulon, Jean Dobbs, Jasper, Ga., Ann and Larry Winkler, Cumming, Chris and Carl Roach, Tucker, and Teena and Ron Glazier, Senoia; a brother, Carlton Skelton, Ellenwood; and sisters, Grace Hollingshead, Decatur and Edna Wright, Snellville.

There are 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Gladys Lee Matthews

Gladys Lee Matthews, 78, Peachtree City, died Oct. 18, 1998. She was born Nov. 28, 1919 in Abbeville, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy E. Matthews.

Her family operated the Matthews Hamper House at the Farmer's Market, selling baskets, crates and other containers for packaging produce. Her two sons still operate the business, which was begun in 1958.

Services were held at the Carl J. Mowell & Son Chapel, Peachtree City, with the Rev. Billy Rowe officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City.

Survivors include sons, Terry and Barbara Matthews, Brooks and Ricky and Pam Matthews, Fayetteville; daughters, Elizabeth Jean Darden, and Sandra Gale Malcolm, both of Fayetteville, and Glenda and John Batten, Jonesboro; a brother, William Smith, Aiken, S.C.; and a sister, Annie Mae Weldon, Abbeville, Ga.

Douglas K. Parker

Douglas K. Parker, 75, Fayetteville, died Oct. 13, 1998. He was born Jan. 8, 1923 in Atlanta.

Graveside services were held at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, College Park, with the Rev. Hershel Turner officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel Parker; daughters, Pam Parker, Cummings and Dedie Parker, Canton; a stepson, Steve and Brenda Eskew, Fairburn; stepdaughters, Gail and Alan Day, Jonesboro and Joan and Lynn Westmoreland, Tyrone; brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Parker, and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Parker, all of Atlanta; a sister, Lorena Reynolds, Duluth; and a son-in-law, Joseph Colabelli.

There are 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Matthew "Matt" Walker

Matthew "Matt" Walker, 20, Fayetteville, died Oct. 17, 1998. He was born oct. 26, 1977 in Fulton County, Ga. He was a 1996 graduate of Fayette County High School and was a freshman at the State University of West Georgia in Carrollton. He enjoyed writing poetry and photography and one of his essays was recently chosen for the college publication, "The Eclectic." He had been diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma several years ago.

Services were held at the Parrott Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chuck Chambers and Linda Meredith officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn, College Park.

Survivors include his parents, Ron and Betty Walker; Fayetteville; and his grandmother, Catherine Walker, Riverdale.

Era Dean Filmore

Era Dean Filmore, 76, Fayetteville, died Oct. 9, 1998. She was born Dec. 18, 1921 in DeKalb County, Ala.

Services were held at the Parrott Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. J. W. Wallis officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park.

Survivors include her daughters, Bobbie Sanders, Fayetteville and Elizabeth Grindrod, Medford, N.J.; brothers, Earl Smith, Collinsville, Ala. and Leroy Smith and Ralph Smith, both of Crossville, Ala.; a sister, marie Brooks, Decatur, Ga.; and grandchildren, Travis Rickett, Pam Fulson and Ricky Sanders.

Ray Reid

Ray Reid, 75, Tyrone, died Oct. 10, 1998. He was born July 18, 1923 in Fulton County, Ga.

Services were held at the Parrott Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Burdette officiating. Interment was at Sharon Memorial Gardens, Tyrone.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Matthews Reid; a son, Danny Reid; his mother, Eva Slaton Reid; a grandson, Mr. and Mrs. Troy Reid; and great-grandchildren, Trent Reid and Tymber Reid, all of Tyrone.

Horace Eugene Hand

Horace Eugene Hand, 91, Carrollton, formerly of Fayetteville, died Oct. 20, 1998. He was born May 26, 1907 in Henry County, Ga. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ignace Callaway Hand.

Services were held at the Carl J. Mowell Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Jerry Wolfe officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Survivors include his daughter, Drs. Edith and Hugh Maxwell, Carrollton; and grandchildren, Stephen C. and Beth Maxwell and Sheila E. Maxwell, all of Carrollton.

Margaret Davis Edwards

Margaret Davis Edwards, 86, Fayetteville, died Oct. 20, 1998. She was born Aug. 12, 1912 in Fulton County, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Howard Edwards.

Services were held at the Carl J. Mowell Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Dwain Boothe officiating. Interment was at the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include daughters, Marie and Thomas D. Williams, Fayetteville and Cecille and Grady L. Leopard, Harrisburg, N.C.; grandchildren, Robin Williams and Tim Williams, both of Fayetteville, Cheryl Torrence, Harrisburg, N.C. and Steve Leopard, Durham, N.C.; and a great-grandchild, Sandy Torrence.
