Tigers caught by the tail

Team: Fayette County Tigers

Coach: Clint Burton

Record: 4-2

Last Week: lost to Lovejoy 38-17

Key Players: QB Gerald Johnson ran for a touchdown while throwing for two touchdowns. Wayne Hall had an interception that resulted in a Fayette County touchdown.

Notes: The Tigers were playing with a plethora of injuries. Wes Clark was injured in the Stockbridge game and then Josh Sauls and Trever Bowman got hurt. The Tigers produced in the first half, gaining 133 yards passing and 109 yards on the ground. They had a dismal second half however, producing a mere 26 total yards of offense.

This week: vs East Coweta

Chiefs scalped by Indians

Team: McIntosh Chiefs

Coach: Clint Ashmore

Record: 1-5

Last Week: lost to East Coweta 37-6

Key Players: Dion Stokes played on both sides of the ball, including running back the opening kick of the second half for a touchdown. Kelechukwu Oparah played solid defensively.

Notes: This game was probably over before it even started. East Coweta took advantage of the problems that have plagued the Chiefs all season. McIntosh's offensive inefficiency put only six points on the board and gave their special teams and defense nothing to work with. The Chiefs were outclassed during warm-ups where the Indians looked like a team with their sights on a state championship and the Chiefs had their sights on the bus that would take them home.

Indians welcome Chiefs to their home

Team: East Coweta

Coach: Danny Cronic

Record: 5-0

Last week: beat McIntosh 37-6

Key players: QB Dantra Clements, RB Marvin Smith, K Ashley Martin, converted all attempts, took a roughing the kicker penalty and won Homecoming Queen.

Notes: This was the type of game that all schools like to have for their homecoming. The stars of the team proved why they were stars and everybody on the team contributed to make the Indians appear invincible. With just under five minutes remaining in the half, Coach Cronic took out both Smith and Clements and the team just cruised for the rest of the night. The Indians led 37-0 at the half and it could have been a lot worse if an impressive punt return for a touchdown hadn't been called back before the half.

This Week: at Fayette County

Patriots drop another heartbreaker

Team Sandy Creek Patriots

Coach: Don Tyre

Record: 2-3

Last week: lost to Mt Zion, Jonesboro 7-0

Key Players: The entire defense played inspired: Josh Clower, Wes Zehms, Thomas Owen, John Norman, Cedric Goalston, Austin Vann and Gavin Bourgeois.

Notes: The defense played a super game with only one letdown, a touchdown pass that won the game for Mt. Zion. The Patriots offense suffered at the hands of the official. "We scored an obvious touchdown, we just did not get credit for it." Coach Tyre said. That touchdown would have led to an overtime where anything could have happened. The Patriots could be 4-1 this year if it weren't for some bad bounces. They haven't been out of any game but the road does not get any easier as they face a tough Jones County team this week.

This week: at Jones County

Panthers get some rest

Team: Starr's Mill Panthers

Coach: Mike Earwood

Record: 2-3

Last week: Bye

Key Players: Did Not Play

Notes: Sandy Creek only lost to Mt Zion by seven points on Friday. Starr's Mill has a shot if their defense can hold Mt Zion off and their offense can get going early. The bye week certainly helped Landmark heal the everyday injuries and Starr's Mill is certainly enjoying the extra week to prepare.

This week: at Mt Zion, Jonesboro

War Eagles topple Vikings

Team: Landmark Christian War Eagles

Coach: Bill Thorn

Record: 4-2

Last week: beat Northgate 38-14

Key Players: James Barker, Hayes McCure, Marvin Jinks, Rasaan Davis, Ray Ross, Joe Stephens, Eric Quint and C.R. Palmer on defense while Durand Rice ran for 209 yards and four touchdowns.

Notes: The entire defense played superb, never allowing the mistakes that were made to hurt the team. Northgate struck first but the War Eagles banged out a victory due to the explosive offense of Durand Rice. Rice had touchdown runs of 72,65 and 64 yards against the Vikings. Northgate is obviously a team that is still developing but never overlooking your opponent is the key to a good team.

This week: at Bremen

Vikings struggle against Landmark

Team: Northgate Vikings

Coach: Ron Beaucham

Record: 0-5

Last week: lost to Landmark Christian 38-14

Key Players: Bo Dettmering was the only standout. He saved Northgate from about three touchdowns with tackles from behind.

Notes: The season must feel extraordinarily long for the Vikings. Despite taking an early lead against the War Eagles and having several opportunities deep in Landmark's zone, Northgate could not put the ball in the end zone. The defense gave up several big runs for touchdowns, which tend to hurt more than those pounded out through an entire game, to Durand Rice. Northgate still has the turnover problem and the team loses their intensity throughout their games. Northgate plays Tri-Counties this Friday still searching for that elusive first victory.

This week: vs Tri County
