The town of Tyrone wants to make sure the bus doesn't pass them by.

During last week's town council meeting, town manager Barry Amos told the council that Peachtree City is currently studying the idea of joining forces with Delta Airlines and AirTran to provide a van shuttle service for their Peachtree City employees to the airport.

Amos said the city sent out a survey to its residents to gauge the support for the idea and said Tyrone would also be interested in looking at the proposal.

"Since it would pass right through here, it makes sense to study it," Amos said.

With increasing pressure on municipalities and counties in the Atlanta region to clean up the area's dirty air, Amos said this could be Tyrone's effort to try and pitch in and improve the quality of life for everyone.

In other news, the council:

Learned that local Texaco gas station owner Salim Ali dropped his request for a variance from the town's sign ordinance. Ali was seeking permission for an internally lit sign at his station, but Amos said the request had been dropped.

Agreed to spend $1,500 to haul gravel to the city's Redwine Park. The city recently received a donation of $2,000 in gravel from Davidson Mineral Properties. Councilman Bill Stone suggested the town could save the $1,500 by using city workers and the city truck, but Amos said the town really could not save that much money.

He estimated it would take the city workers nearly two weeks to haul and spread the gravel and said the city's truck would probably need a new clutch after such a strenuous workout.

Councilman Ray Bogenschutz said the town would be better served by completing the work all at once and council members Lisa Richardson and Ronnie Cannon supported his motion to spend the $1,500, while Stone and Mayor Richard Santiago voted against it.
