Newnan gets DOT grant

The Georgia Department of Transportation recently announced the approval of the Downtown Newnan Streetscape Project in Coweta County.

The project includes enhancements to sidewalk, intersection and overall streetscape are improvements for a nine-block area around the historic courthouse in the center block. The streets that bound the project are Brown, Madison, Perry and Spring. Considerable historical research was conducted for the streetscape design.

Up to 80 percent of the funds for the approved project are provided by the Federal Highway Administration, with the local government funding the remainder of the total project cost,

The funding will be available this month. The local government project sponsor is responsible for implementing the Transportation Enhancement Activity projects and obtaining federal reimbursement from the DOT.

The program was established in 1991 and continued by a new law in 1998.
