Public comment
sought on state
HIV reporting

Public health planners are seeking input from the residents of the 12 counties that comprise the LaGrange public health district, including Fayette and Coweta. A community meeting is set for Sept. 24, 10 a.m. to noon, at the Griffin-Spalding County Regional Library in Griffin, to get comments about developing an HIV reporting system in Georgia.

The meeting will begin with presentations from local and state health officials on HIV reporting. After the presentations, attendees will have the opportunity to share opinions and comments about HIV reporting to local and state health officials.

HIV reporting is the collection of HIV positive test results to monitor trends and identify prevention and treatment services needed in a specific area. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have recommended that all states begin HIV reporting as an extension of their AIDS surveillance systems.

People interested in providing written comments are asked to submit them by Oct. 15, 1998, to: HIV Reporting Comments, Georgia Dept. of Human Resources Epidemiology and Prevention Branch, 2 Peachtree St., NW, 6th Floor Tower, Room 6-407, Atlanta, GA 30303-3186, or e-mail: gaepinfo@dhr.state.ga.us.

For more information on the meeting, call John Riggs or John Darden at the LaGrange Public Health District Office, 706-845-4035.
