to provide flu, pneumonia vaccines at walk-in clinic The Fayette County Health Department will offer flu and pneumonia vaccines on a walk-in basis from Monday, Sept. 28, through Friday, Oct. 2. A flu vaccine is the best protection available against a case of the flu, and according to the health department, any temporary discomfort or side effects that may be experienced from the injection will be minor compared to the severe muscle aches, fever and prolonged coughing and congestion associated with the flu itself. A vaccine for pneumonia is particularly recommended for persons over age 65, or anyone with a chronic illness such as diabetes, asthma or a heart condition. Boosters are necessary only in a very few cases. The hours of operation during the clinic will be Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per vaccination. They accept cash, checks or Part B Medicare (bring card with you). After Oct. 2, it will be necessary to call for an appointment. Those with questions about these vaccines, concerns about whether or not you should take them, or about any of the other services offered through the Fayette County Health Department, call 770-461-1178, ext. 416. |
