Just try marching in our shoes for a while before criticizing MHS band

Letters from Our Readers

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

I am freshman student at McIntosh High School. I am writing in regard to the letter written by Mr. Bryan on Sept. 2.

I am in the pit section (a percussion division) of the marching band this year and I have only one thing to say to Mr. Bryan have you ever even visited our band room or been to one of our practices?

You have no idea how many dedicated people put their time and effort into the Spirit of McIntosh band. Being in the pit section of the band, I get a firsthand account of the energy these people put in to help make our band the success it has become over the years.

Just one of the many examples of these people would be one particular woman who has helped the band (especially the pit section) for over 15 years. She loans us her pickup to transport equipment, her time to make sure everything is in its proper place, and her thoughtfulness time and time again. This person is Vickie White. Until you come out and see our "behind the scenes" helpers, do not judge us.

On the subject of money, perhaps your "Wonderboys" were in better shape equipment-wise than the Spirit of McIntosh is. Do you have any idea what a fiberglass splinter from a worn-out xylophone feels like in your finger? Sir, I do!

Have you ever had a full-size marimba fall on top of you while you were trying to move it because the front wheel was broken, rusted, and turned the wrong way? Been there, done that. Ms. West's "excuses" were well-meant, Mr. Bryan. Your money wasn't spent on our band program.

I hope I have gotten my point across. If you don't like our band or football team, maybe you should move to Fulton County. If at any time you would care to come out and help the pit move equipment, it would be greatly appreciated. Just watch out for those splinters.
