Tyrone can expect to see the property tax rate to remain the same for the fifth consecutive year, according to city manager Barry Amos.

The council will hold a special meeting tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the town hall, where the council plans to vote to keep the property tax at 2.5 mills.

Although the rate will remain the same, the city will "enjoy a pretty large increase in revenue," said Fayette County tax commissioner Georgia Wingo, due to an increase in property values.

The five-year history of the city shows a 17.38 percent increase in revenue over last year from $212,649 to $249,600.59.

The property tax collected is based on 40 percent of the assessed value of all taxable property, which includes industrial, commercial and residential real estate, automobiles, moble homes, timber and heavy duty equipment.

Amos said he believes the city is remaining consistent with most Fayette County municipalities.
